Lamp Terminology
Love lamps? Us too!
Use the adjacent graphic to help you make sense of lamp part terminology. Some of the names can be confusing without knowledge on the subject.
Note: The U.L. Label for a lamp is most often at the place indicated above, however not always. The U.L. Label is meant to convey that the lamp has been approved to safety standards. U.L. Labels can also be found on the bulbs themselves.
Most of the names for table lamp parts can be translated to other lamp types, especially floor lamps. In addition to these terms, there is an entire language out there that you can learn - all dedicated to describing both light fixtures and light itself. Many interior designers are well versed in this language as lighting design is one of the primary considerations of interior design.
